Challenges Relating to the Procurement of Managed IT Services

Marketvisio conducted a survey on the risks and challenges relating to the procurement of managed IT services. The survey also discusses best practices that are recommended to be applied during the procurement process.

The survey focuses on the infrastructure and software management outsourcing services.

The data was gathered by interviewing personally altogether 17 IT end users and IT service providers. The interviews were made in spring 2011.

The development of and changes in the managed IT services market have also an effect on the procurement of IT services in the end user organizations. The development of the delivery models of the managed IT services changes the roles of business management and IT management in the procurement process.

Both the client and the IT service provider can make the procurement process easier and faster. The client appreciates commoditized services, clear service descriptions and transparent pricing. The service provider welcomes a client who is acquainted with the IT services market and the offerings of the IT service providers.

All phases of the procurement process involve risks and challenges that the end user organizations should identify and be prepared to address.
