The results indicate that the adoption rate of cloud computing has increased considerably during the past year. While a year ago a bit more than one fourth of the organizations participating in the survey reported usage of cloud computing services, is the rate now 46 per cent.
The interesting point is that big organizations with personnel of over 1000 seem to be earlier adopters than smaller organizations although the cloud computing model is supposed to be particularly suitable for them as well.
The users are mostly content with the cloud computing services, including data security. However, the expectations regarding cost decreases by using SaaS have not completely met.
Marketvisio carried out a comprehensive end-user survey on the use of cloud computing in Finland. The results are compared to the results of the corresponding survey conducted in 2010. In the survey the cloud computing services include SaaS (Software as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service).
Due to the adoption rate of cloud services the focus of the research is on the SaaS services. The survey also discusses expectations and experiences on the use of SaaS services.
The data was gathered by telephone interviewing 145 organizations from different industries and the public sector in August – October 2011.
